mount kenya climbing sirimon Naro
Moru route - Mount Kenya Climbing,
Sirimon route,
3 DAYS SIRIMON / NAROMORU
"A challengers choice"
(This itinerary is adjustable to 4
or 5 days)
A very popular traverse combining
two of the best-established routes
on Mount Kenya Hiking with
straightforward paths. Both routes
have comfortable huts at the
appropriate overnight stops, manned
by caretakers and camping is not
necessary unless preferred. The last
day of the trip is inevitably long
as you attempt the summit and
descend all the way to the Naro Moru
road trek head in order to meet up
with your transport off the
Mountain. Due to the challenge it
posses on the final day we recommend
it to seasoned mountaineers only.
NB: This itinerary can run in the
reverse order commencing on the Naro
Moru route.
Detailed Day by Day itinerary
Day 1: Depart at 1000hrs to be
transferred to Sirimon Park gate.
(Clients traveling from Nairobi
should arrive at the lodge latest
1300hrs for a quick lunch and onward
transfer to the Park gate). From
here, hike through montane forest,
bamboo and rosewood up to the
OldMoses Hut, gaining an elevation
range of 700m in 3-4 hours.
Dinner and Overnight

Hut (3300m)
Day 2: Leaving early, traverse
the expansive moorlands carpeted
with tussock grasses and dotted with
Giant lobelia and Senecio plants,
crossing streams and valleys.
Today‚s trek is largely through the
Mackinder Valley, with good views of
the main peaks and a brief stopover
for picnic lunch. Total walking time
is approx. 7 hours gaining 900m in
altitude before you arrive at the
Shipton‚s Hut.
Dinner and Overnight
------------------------------------------------Shipton's
Hut (4200m)
Day 3: Pre-dawn attempt of the
summit starts at 0300hrs and you
hike for about 3 hours up steep
scree slopes and across rugged rocks
up to Pt. Lenana (4985m), "the
hikers‚ summit". Then down through
Lewis Glacier up to the Austrian hut
to join to the Naromoru route and
descend for 2 hours to Mackinder‚s
camp for breakfast then gradually
descend for a further 4-5 hours
through the moorlands and the
vertical bog to the Met Station,
from where you walk down short
distance on a wide dirt road leading
to the Naromoru road head (2600m)
where you meet our vehicle. You are
then transferred back to Mountain
Rock Lodge for a hot shower, lunch
and optional overnight stop. Those
