Responsible Business

As an African Tour company that's passionate about Africa, Diwaka Safaris have a responsibility to the communities, wildlife and environment in the destinations we promote. We need to support responsible travel to these amazing places because it makes business sense, yes, but also because we have an online platform that we can use to make a positive contribution. With global reach we can help raise awareness of thoughtful development and conservation in places that we encourage our travellers to experience.

Below we've listed some projects that are making a huge contribution to developing, sustaining and protecting African communities, wildlife and conservation efforts. We've also listed some of the projects Diwaka Safaris contributes to or participates in so you can see if we're living up to our own standards.

The Green Belt Movement - We are a keen supporters of the Green Belt Movement, an NGO headed by Africa's first woman Nobel prize winner Wangari Maathai. The organization is responsible for tree planting and forest conservation.

Kenya Red Cross - When Kenya experienced an outbreak of post election violence Diwaka Safaris employees filled a van load of clothing and food for distribution with the help of Kenya Red Cross at one of the temporary camps set up for them.

Hosanna Children's Home - Hosanna Children's home is a children's home located just outside Nairobi (just 20kms from Nairobi) and host destitute children some who have been rescued from the street life while others have been abandoned by their families and others are orphans.

Motherly Care Children's Home - Motherly Care Children's Home (MCCH) is a non profit organization dedicated to providing a loving home to the many orphaned children in Kenya. They strive to rescue children who have been displaced, abandoned or orphaned as a result of HIV/Aids or physical or sexual abuse.

David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust - Lewa Conservancy is home to a wide variety of wildlife with over 70 mammal and 350 bird species. As a result of its successful wildlife management policy Lewa is now able to translocate some species to repopulate other parks and reserves in Kenya.
